Arizona Scholarship
Arizona Winner – Zoey Zhao, Tucson Empire High School

Hi,
My name is Patience. I’m an ocelot kitten. I was born in the hills near Tucson, Arizona. Ocelots are nocturnal, so we sleep during the day and venture out at night to hunt for food. My dad travels about 5 miles at night looking for food but mom and I stay pretty close to our rocky little cave.
Ocelots are carnivores. We catch small mammals, amphibians, reptiles, birds and fish. When I spot a little animal, I crouch down and stay perfectly still! I’m VERY patient! I slowly creep up until I get really close and then I pounce on it!
We’re an endangered species due to deforestation, habitat destruction, agriculture, hunting for fur and the pet trade.
We’re protected now, and that makes me very happy!!!
Thank you for caring about me!
Patience
